North American Title Company (NATC) is among the largest real estate settlement service providers in the United States, with well over 1,000 associates and a network of branches from coast to coast. NATC’s parent company is States Title Holding., Inc., headquartered in San Francisco, California. Founded by Max Simkoff and backed by leading venture capitalists in Silicon Valley, States Title uses predictive analytics and cutting-edge technology to deliver a modern title and escrow platform.
Established in 1953 in California, NATC operates in 19 states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Virginia, in addition to the District of Columbia. Through our relationship with an expanding affiliate network and agency partners, NATC can provide or is able to coordinate real estate settlement services in all 50 states.
NATC is affiliated with North American Title Insurance Company (NATIC), one of the largest title insurance underwriters in the United States. The company’s expansive underwriting network operates in 39 states and the District of Columbia. The Demotech, Inc. insurance-rating agency has rated NATIC as one of the best capitalized and managed underwriters in the title insurance industry. Earning the rating of “A Prime Unsurpassed” from Demotech, Inc. means that, regardless of economic or insurance cycle turbulence, NATIC possesses unsurpassed financial strength and stability.
NATIC was also recognized as having one of “the best financial conditions amongst its peers” by Kroll Bond Ratings Agency.
North American Title Company
Timeline
1953
American Title Branch network began. Promptly spanned 15 Southern California locations.
1983
North American Title Company (NATC) was established and Northern California locations were added.
1984
In Florida, Lennar established its first title agency, Universal Title Insurors, Inc.
1985
Glendale Federal Bank acquired both American and North American Title Companies.
1988
Glendale merged both companies into North American Title Company (NATC).
1991
North American Asset Development Corp. (NAADC) purchased NATC. Underwriting operations begin with the acquisition of First American Aircraft Title Insurance Company
1993
West Coast expansion began with Arizona and Colorado.
1994
Lennar organically formed a new Florida domiciled title underwriter, Title America Insurance Corporation, which was later renamed North American Title Insurance Corporation (NATIC).
1996
NATC and NATIC expanded into Texas.
1998
Lennar acquired NAADC through its title operations holding company, NATG.
2001
NATC and NATIC expanded into Nevada.
2002
NATC expanded into Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia. NATIC was authorized in Oklahoma
2003
NATC expanded into Illinois.
2004
NATC expanded into Minnesota and Pennsylvania. NATIC was authorized in North Carolina and South Carolina.
2005
NATIC was authorized in Delaware and New Jersey.
2006
NATIC was authorized in Illinois, Minnesota, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
NATC expanded into New Jersey and New York.
2007
The two affiliated underwriters merged into NATIC. NATIC was authorized in Ohio.
2008
NATIC was authorized in Wyoming.
2009
NATIC was authorized in Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
2010
NATIC was authorized in Massachusetts.
2011
NATIC was authorized in Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi and Utah and North American Title, LLC was incorporated in Utah.
2012
NATIC was authorized in Indiana, Oregon and Washington.
2013
North American Title celebrated its 60th Anniversary.
NATIC was authorized in Connecticut, Idaho, Maine and New Hampshire.
2014
NATIC was authorized in Hawaii, Louisiana, Montana, New Mexico and Rhode Island.
NATC expanded into Indiana.
NATIC commenced direct operations in Ohio.
2016
NATC acquired Appalachian Title Co., expanding the company into North Carolina and South Carolina and Realstar Title, expanding its footprint to 13 branches across Minnesota
2019
States Title acquired NATIC and a large portion of NATC, with Lennar retaining a minority interest.
